Steve Soitos on African-American Detective Fiction

HOST: Joel Saxe

Writer and literary scholar Stephen Soitos discusses some of the major themes of his award-winning book, The Blues Detective: A Study of African American Detective Fiction. Published by University of Massachusetts Press in 1996, it offers a ground-breaking analysis of what was a largely unchartered genre of Black American fiction.  Steve shares some of his life story, including 1960s activism that led this white working class guy from New Bedford to take up the study of African American literature.
