The situation facing renters and the problem of income inequality in Springfield, Massachusetts – and how people can organize for change — is discussed by Michaelann Bewsee, director of ARISE for Social Justice. As part of a new national network, on May 9, 2015, ARISE sponsored one of the first local conferences of the Renter Nation Assembly. Michaelann discussed a range of issues facing low-income residents of Springfield including poverty, poor schools, youth unemployment, environmental activism, and political victories won by ARISE such as City Council ward elections.
