UTOPIA IN NORTHAMPTON: INTERVIEW STEVE STRIMER

MAAP_DavidRuggles_Then_274[1]Bread and Roses host Elliot Tarry talks with David Ruggles Center Director Steve Strimer about the utopian community in early 19th century Florence, Massachusetts called the Northampton Association of Education and Industry. Founded in 1842 by abolitionists, the NAEI was an egalitarian, worker cooperative venture which held 180 members at its height. Steve Strimer discusses its relationship to the underground railroad and the economic disillusionment of the early industrial era in America.
